The link between the resource and this document is provided using the [CiTO](http://purl.org/spar/cito) property `cito:citesAsMetadataDocument`. The particular scheme followed for creating the resource metadata exemplified in the metadata document is expressed via the property `datacite:usesMetadataScheme` and the class `datacite:MetadataScheme`. This is also used when the relation type between two resources involves the association of metadata to one by the other. It is possible to specify a metadata scheme used by the particular metadata document under consideration to describe the metadata of the subject resource or of the related resource. In addition to specifying a metadata scheme, in this case the metadata document can also be characterised by means of the class `fabio:MetatadaDocument`. Each metadata scheme is an individual of the class `datacite:MetadataScheme`.
